Brad Melson, PharmD, is the General Manager for SONA Compounding Pharmacy in Asheville, NC. Melson received his doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy (2009). Prior to joining SONA Compounding Pharmacy in 2012, Melson was a Pharmacy Manager for Rite Aid in Western NC.
In addition to Melson’s role as Pharmacy Manager, he oversees the pharmacy operations for both community pharmacies in Asheville and Hendersonville, which also includes software implementation, specialty pharmacy services, adherence programs, clinical services, and business development projects. Melson was also actively involved in the conception and building design of SONA Compounding Pharmacy. He is a preceptor for advanced community experiential rotations UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Melson is a member of National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA).
Dr. Gus Vickery
Dr. Vickery is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Dr. Vickery is a board certified family physician and started Vickery Family Medicine, which is designated as a patient-centered medical home, in 2005.
He is associated with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Department of Family Medicine, hosting medical students for their family medicine rotations.
Dr. Vickery also participates in the Minority Mentoring program through the Mountain Area Health Education Center. He maintains privileges at Mission Memorial Hospital and is the Medical Director for the Biltmore Company. When not working, Dr. Vickery enjoys spending time with his wife and three children and exploring the outdoors.
Natasha (Tasha) Michaels, PharmD, BCACP is Director of Clinical Services at SONA Compounding Pharmacy. Michaels received her bachelor of science in chemistry and biology and minor in mathematics from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC (2003). She received her doctor of pharmacy from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (2007).
Michaels completed her PGY1 community pharmacy residency at Kerr Drug in Raleigh and UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (2008). Her research on North Carolina’s Medicaid Medication Therapy Management Program was published in the May/June 2010 issue of Journal of the American Pharmacists Association. Michaels’ primary focus has been to provide clinical services to patients in the community setting including incorporation of these services into pharmacy workflow. These services consist of medication therapy management services, immunizations, point-of-care testing, and disease state management, including diabetes education. Michaels is passionate about vaccinations and expanding the role of community pharmacists.
Michaels joined the SONA Compounding Pharmacy team in 2015 and relocated to Asheville from the Triangle area in NC. Prior to joining SONA Compounding Pharmacy, Michaels practiced at Kerr Drug and Walgreens.
Michaels is also an adjunct faculty member at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and serves as a preceptor for advanced community experiential rotations for pharmacy students from various schools of pharmacy. She is a member of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP). She is actively involved in NCAP and currently serves on the Immunization Committee and Editorial Board. She has served as a member of NCAP’s Community Care Practice Forum Executive Committee 2009 – 2014 including Chair in 2013, Membership Committee, Award Committee, and Strategic Plan Task Force. Michaels received the Community Care Pharmacist of the Year award in August 2010 from NCAP for her work with expanding MTM to all Kerr Drug pharmacists and stores. She also became a Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist in 2012.
Nikki Craig is the Front End Manager for SONA Compounding Pharmacy. She has an extensive background in retail pharmacy management. Some of her strengths include managing and motivating a sales team, recruiting and training, sales building, merchandising, inventory management, and exceeding financial objectives. Providing extraordinary customer service is her passion.
Nikki loves serving the community knowing that she can potentially make a difference in someone’s life. In her free time, Nikki enjoys spending time with her Husband and 2 sons, camping, hiking, riding bikes, and traveling.
Emily Mahowald, FNP, graduated from Warren Wilson College with a degree in Economics and Human Studies. She went on to study nursing at Western Carolina University and then graduated from the Family Nurse Practitioner program at East Tennessee State University. She has two sons, ages two and five, and enjoys kayaking, mountain biking, running, and playing Legos with her boys.
Scott Henson, R.Ph., is a staff pharmacist for SONA Compounding Pharmacy and works at both the Asheville and Hendersonville locations. He received his bachelor of science in pharmacy from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in Chapel Hill, North Carolina (1990). Scott grew up in Western North Carolina and he and his wife, Kristy, have lived in Asheville for over twenty years.
He joined the Blue Ridge Pharmacy family in 2014 as a pharmacist in the long term care division. In November of 2016 he transitioned into his current role at Sona. Scott has spent most of his career in community pharmacy and loves the opportunity it provides him to develop meaningful relationships with the clients he serves. His specialty interests in pharmacy include compounding as well as herbal and nutritional supplements. Scott loves living in the mountains and in his personal time you will frequently find him fly fishing, backpacking, and enjoying waterfalls.
Dr. Stanley Hamaker
He has been married for almost 40 years and has 4 children who live in the area. He enjoys working in his yard and participating in any sport he can still manage to play.
Todd Tamplin, RPh, is a co-owner and co-founder of Blue Ridge Pharmacy. Tamplin received his bachelor of science in pharmacy from University of Louisana Monroe (1992). Upon graduation, he began working at a community hospital and quickly worked his way up into a management position. By 1997, he was a Pharmacy Manager for a long-term care pharmacy and worked at different long-term care pharmacies throughout the US.
In 2005, Tamplin partnered with Dean Clayton and created Blue Ridge Pharmacy to fulfill a need in Western NC for a local long-term care pharmacy. Tamplin and Clayton acquired a local community pharmacy in Asheville and while continuing to provide pharmacy services for the community patients created their long-term care business. After 10 years, Tamplin primarily oversees the operations for the Sona community pharmacies in Asheville and Hendersonville and the Sona Access Program.
Bobby Davis, PharmD, is a staff pharmacist for SONA Compounding Pharmacy in Asheville, NC. He received his undergraduate degree from Radford University in Radford, VA and his doctor of pharmacy degree from the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. Prior to joining SONA Compounding Pharmacy in 2014, he worked for CVS Pharmacy in Hendersonville, NC.
In addition to his roles as pharmacist, Bobby is also a preceptor for advanced practice experiential education rotations with the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy at ETSU.
