Brad Melson–Pharmacist

Brad Melson, PharmD, is the General Manager for SONA Compounding Pharmacy in Asheville, NC. Melson received his doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy (2009). Prior to joining SONA Compounding Pharmacy in 2012, Melson was a Pharmacy Manager for Rite Aid in Western NC.

In addition to Melson’s role as Pharmacy Manager, he oversees the pharmacy operations for both community pharmacies in Asheville and Hendersonville, which also includes software implementation, specialty pharmacy services, adherence programs, clinical services, and business development projects. Melson was also actively involved in the conception and building design of SONA Compounding Pharmacy. He is a preceptor for advanced community experiential rotations UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Melson is a member of National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA).

Tasha Michaels–Pharmacist
Natasha (Tasha) Michaels, PharmD, BCACP is Director of Clinical Services at SONA Compounding Pharmacy. Michaels received her bachelor of science in chemistry and biology and minor in mathematics from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC (2003). She received her doctor of pharmacy from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (2007).

Michaels completed her PGY1 community pharmacy residency at Kerr Drug in Raleigh and UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (2008). Her research on North Carolina’s Medicaid Medication Therapy Management Program was published in the May/June 2010 issue of Journal of the American Pharmacists Association. Michaels’ primary focus has been to provide clinical services to patients in the community setting including incorporation of these services into pharmacy workflow. These services consist of medication therapy management services, immunizations, point-of-care testing, and disease state management, including diabetes education. Michaels is passionate about vaccinations and expanding the role of community pharmacists.

Michaels joined the SONA Compounding Pharmacy team in 2015 and relocated to Asheville from the Triangle area in NC. Prior to joining SONA Compounding Pharmacy, Michaels practiced at Kerr Drug and Walgreens.

Michaels is also an adjunct faculty member at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and serves as a preceptor for advanced community experiential rotations for pharmacy students from various schools of pharmacy. She is a member of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP). She is actively involved in NCAP and currently serves on the Immunization Committee and Editorial Board. She has served as a member of NCAP’s Community Care Practice Forum Executive Committee 2009 – 2014 including Chair in 2013, Membership Committee, Award Committee, and Strategic Plan Task Force. Michaels received the Community Care Pharmacist of the Year award in August 2010 from NCAP for her work with expanding MTM to all Kerr Drug pharmacists and stores. She also became a Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist in 2012.

Nikki Craig–Store Manager
Nikki Craig is the Front End Manager for SONA Compounding Pharmacy. She has an extensive background in retail pharmacy management. Some of her strengths include managing and motivating a sales team, recruiting and training, sales building, merchandising, inventory management, and exceeding financial objectives. Providing extraordinary customer service is her passion.

Nikki loves serving the community knowing that she can potentially make a difference in someone’s life. In her free time, Nikki enjoys spending time with her Husband and 2 sons, camping, hiking, riding bikes, and traveling.

Tori Watkins–Pharmacist
Tori Watkins, PharmD, is Sona Pharmacy’s Access Clinical Coordinator.

She grew up in Austin, TX and graduated from Texas Tech University in 2014 with degrees in Chemistry and Psychology. She then immediately started work on her pharmacy degree at the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, where she graduated in 2018. After graduating she moved to North Carolina to complete her PGY-1 Community-based pharmacy residency here at Sona Pharmacy + Clinic in coordination with UNC College of Pharmacy.

Her pharmacy background is almost exclusively in independent pharmacy practice. Her goal is to create safe and open environments for her patients to help them navigate the healthcare system and successfully manage their medications. She is a member of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), and North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP).

On the weekends you’ll find Tori hanging out with her corgi pup Bandit, hiking in the mountains with her husband, or exploring Asheville’s food and music.

Marybeth Isley–Pharmacist
Marybeth Isley, PharmD, is a staff pharmacist at Sona Pharmacy in Asheville, NC. She received her bachelors in business administration and doctorate of pharmacy at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. She joined the Sona team in May of 2017. Prior to her arrival at Sona, she worked for Rite Aid in Western North Carolina.

In her free time, Marybeth enjoys sewing, biking, and walking her dog.

Aaron Davis–Pharmacist
Aaron Davis is a pharmacist at Sona. Aaron grew up in Ellenboro, NC where both of his parents were school teachers and lived on an Angus cattle farm.

Aaron has always enjoyed being outdoors whether it was working on the farm, camping, or playing sports like basketball, golf, and tennis. He has always loved music and learned to play guitar at a young age as well.

Aaron attended Appalachian State University and studied chemistry. He also earned his Doctorate in Pharmacy from Campbell University in 2004.

Aaron and his wife, Sheena, have been married for 18 years and have three children Alex, Charlotte, and Grant.

Harskin 'H.J.' Hayes, Jr.–Director of Specialty Pharmacy
Harskin ‘H.J.’ Hayes Jr. is the Director of Specialty Pharmacy at Sona.

H.J. is a native of Manning, SC and graduated from Clemson University. He received his pharmacy degree from South Carolina College of Pharmacy in Columbia, and completed his community pharmacy residency through UNC.

H.J. enjoys traveling, going to concerts, trying out new restaurants and cuisine, hiking the Blue Ridge Parkway, and spending time with his family and friends.

Jenny McALlister–Pharmacist
Jenny McAllister is a pharmacist at Sona Pharmacy + Clinic.

Originally from Raleigh, Jenny moved to Asheville almost a year ago with her husband, Rob, and two dogs, a greyhound and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They both love the area and enjoy spending time hiking, checking out local art and music, and exploring Asheville’s lively downtown.

Jenny completed her undergraduate degree at N.C. State University and obtained her Pharm.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill. Needless to say, college football and basketball seasons are interesting times in Jenny’s household!

Scott Henson–Pharmacist
Scott Henson, R.Ph., is a staff pharmacist for SONA Compounding Pharmacy and works at both the Asheville and Hendersonville locations. He received his bachelor of science in pharmacy from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in Chapel Hill, North Carolina (1990). Scott grew up in Western North Carolina and he and his wife, Kristy, have lived in Asheville for over twenty years.

He joined the Blue Ridge Pharmacy family in 2014 as a pharmacist in the long term care division. In November of 2016 he transitioned into his current role at Sona. Scott has spent most of his career in community pharmacy and loves the opportunity it provides him to develop meaningful relationships with the clients he serves. His specialty interests in pharmacy include compounding as well as herbal and nutritional supplements. Scott loves living in the mountains and in his personal time you will frequently find him fly fishing, backpacking, and enjoying waterfalls.

Evan Bruder–Director of Sona Benefits
Evan Bruder is the Director of Sona Benefits in Asheville, NC.

He is an Asheville, NC native and received his bachelors in business administration from Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Evan’s responsibilities include managing Sona Benefit partnership agreements, overseeing operations, and continually developing local relationships. Outside of the office, Evan enjoys spending time with his wife, hiking, traveling, trying new restaurants, and playing golf.

Lauren Minar–Director of Compounding Pharmacy
Lauren Minar, PharmD is the Director of Compounding Pharmacy Operations at Sona Compounding.

She was raised in Lilburn, Georgia and attended undergrad and pharmacy school at The University of Georgia. Go Dawgs!

Lauren is passionate about incorporating functional medicine into Sona’s compounding pharmacy services. She believes it’s important to take an individualized approach to address the root cause of disease.

Lauren lives in Asheville with her two dogs, Wyatt and Wilma.

On the weekends, you can find her cooking, baking, gardening, fly fishing, and reupholstering furniture (her newest hobby!)

Deven Jackson–Pharmacist
Deven Jackson, PharmD is the Clinical Coordinator at Sona Pharmacy + Clinic. His responsibilities at Sona include staffing and growing clinical services such as health coaching, immunizations, and medication therapy management.

He received his doctor of pharmacy from the University of Georgia in 2017. He completed his PGY1 Community-based pharmacy residency program with Sona Pharmacy + Clinic and UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2018.

His hobbies including watching all Georgia sports (Bulldogs, Braves, Falcons and Hawks), hiking, video games and attending concerts.

Taylor Toomey–Director of Marketing
Taylor oversees all of Sona’s marketing efforts, including Sona Pharmacy + Clinic, Sona Compounding, Sona Specialty, and Sona Benefits. Before joining Sona in March of 2020, she served for 5 years as Vice President of Strategy at a healthcare marketing firm in her hometown of Augusta, GA. Prior to that, she held a wide range of marketing roles within several industries, including technology, retail, and fitness. Taylor is a graduate of the Honors College at College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Communication.

She is passionate about connecting brands with their customers, especially in the world of healthcare. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking with her husband and dog and exploring everything Asheville offers.

Todd Tamplin–Pharmacist
Todd Tamplin, RPh, is a co-owner and co-founder of Blue Ridge Pharmacy. Tamplin received his bachelor of science in pharmacy from University of Louisana Monroe (1992). Upon graduation, he began working at a community hospital and quickly worked his way up into a management position. By 1997, he was a Pharmacy Manager for a long-term care pharmacy and worked at different long-term care pharmacies throughout the US.

In 2005, Tamplin partnered with Dean Clayton and created Blue Ridge Pharmacy to fulfill a need in Western NC for a local long-term care pharmacy. Tamplin and Clayton acquired a local community pharmacy in Asheville and while continuing to provide pharmacy services for the community patients created their long-term care business. After 10 years, Tamplin primarily oversees the operations for the Sona community pharmacies in Asheville and Hendersonville and the Sona Access Program.

North Carolina Compounding Pharmacy, Sona Pharmacy, located in Asheville also serves the areas of Buncombe County, Baltimore Forest, Black Mountain, Montreat, Weaverville and Woodfin North Carolina.
